Stocking Tarot and Oracle Decks as First Aid Remedies
Within a tarot deck lies a veritable storehouse of esoteric knowledge and spiritual wisdom. The cards are a living, organic art form.
Given the disquieting current state of the planet it is not surprising that the waves of chaos have taken a toll on life and livelihood, planting deep-rooted fear and anxiety in almost everyone. Tackling the trepidation that stems from the sense that things are out of control and keeping mentally fit is a big challenge.
Faced with such anxiety it is not uncommon to seek solutions outside of ourselves but, as those who have walked before us will attest, the ultimate remedy actually lies within.
Solutions also exists within our philosophical and spiritual doctrines, some of which we have rejected because they have no longer seemed to resonate. However it is a folly to reject all of the spiritual and philosophical doctrines that have sustained human kind for centuries. The Scriptures, for example, have helped people locate and experience some sense of peace, grit, resilience and equanimity in times of upheaval and chaos.
So where do Tarot and Oracle Cards fit in?
The allegorical images that appear on Tarot cards and within Oracle decks were undoubtedly an early, preliterate, form of ‘flash cards’ used to impart wisdom and help shift perceptions. They remain a veritable storehouse of esoteric knowledge and spiritual wisdom, a living, organic art form that can help sustain us in times of crisis.
Personally, I like to keep a First Aid Kit filled with decks and guide books that I know I can regularly turn to for advice. The content of my kit may vary, depending on what material seems to resonate most, but it always includes a much loved copy of ‘God Makes the Rivers to Flow’ a text by Exnath Easaran. This text contains diverse selections from the sacred literature of the world.
Combining First Aid Kit with a Journal/Diary
The New Diary has been around for yonks but it still manages to offer a modern concept of journal writing. This gem has little to do with the rigid daily calendar diary you may have kept as a child or the factual travelogue you wrote to recall your travels through India. Instead, it is a tool for tapping the full power of your inner resources.
The New Diary is as much for those who already keep a journal as it is for those who have never kept one. It does not tell you the right way to keep a diary; rather, it offers numerous possibilities for using the diary to achieve your own purposes. It is a place for you to clarify goals, visualize the future, and focus your energies; a means of freeing your intuition and imagination; a workbook for exploring your dreams, your past, and your present life.
It is for everyone seeking concrete methods for dealing with personal problems. It is for women and men interested in achieving self-reliance and inner liberation, for artists and writers seeking new techniques for overcoming blocks to creativity.
It is the ideal companion to keep stashed in your Creative First Aid Kit.
